Welcome to Boating – Free Clinics for New Boaters

Whether you’re new to boating or grew up on the water, being prepared and staying in the know with safety tips, boating regulations, and maintenance suggestions is just as important as making the most of every experience. For the safety of all boaters and to ensure new boaters become confident and continue boating, the Marine Trades Association of Maryland (MTAM), the Department of Natural Resources Clean Marina Program, Annapolis School of Seamanship, and Boat U.S. Foundation have launched a new event with opportunities for new boaters to learn how to properly launch, retrieve/load, and dock their boat.

This two day event will be offered September 17th (11:00 am to 7:00 pm) and September 18th (10:00 am to 4:00 pm). This event is free and open to the public. As an added incentive, the Annapolis Boat Show is offering all attendees a $5 off discount on tickets to the United States Powerboat Show (October 7-10, 2021). Make sure to register for the clinics to get your discount code.

The event features instructions on docking, launching, and safety, which will be taught by Annapolis School of Seamanship and Boat US Foundation. The event features three specific clinics, which are each 30 minutes:

  • Docking your Boat
  • Retrieving your Boat at a Ramp
  •  Life Jacket Safety

Docking your Boat will start at 12:30 pm on Friday and 10:00 am on Saturday, followed by the other clinics that will all repeat throughout the day.

In addition to the 30 minute scheduled clinics, attendees can also speak to industry experts that will be onsite to address the following topics:

  • Flares and other Safety items with Orion Safety Products
  • Paint and finishes with Interlux Paint Finishes
  • Winterization with Safe Harbor Marinas
  • Fuel Dock Safety with Oasis Marinas
  • Towing and Anchoring with TowBoat US
  • Clean Boating with DNR Clean Marina
  • Fishing and conservation with Coastal Conservation Association of Maryland
