Take the Wheel – What You Need to Know

Where to Go

Take the Wheel will be held at The Graduate Hotel of Annapolis.  The Graduate Hotel is located at 126 West Street,  Annapolis, MD 21401.  It is located a short walk from the United States Sailboat Show grounds through historical downtown.



When to Arrive

Registration and continental breakfast are from 7:30 am to 8:30 am. 

Where to Stay

The Graduate Hotel of Annapolis is offering a room block discount for the participants of Cruisers University. The dates for the discounted rooms start on Thursday night, October 14th and go through Sunday morning, October 17th.  You may also call The Graduate Hotel to book directly at 1-844-888-GRAD, when you call, please reference Cruisers University and the Group Codes CUS1014 (October 14-17th).

What to Do

Please retain your printed ticket for checking into Take the Wheel at The Graduate of Annapolis. Registration opens at 7:30 am.

Although you will have a chance to go on the docks of the Sailboat Show during and after Take the Wheel Workshop, admission for the United States Sailboat Show is included for any day you choose to attend, October 14-18th, 2021.  Take the Wheel Badges/Credentials will be mailed to participants 10-14 days prior to the workshop.  The Badge/Credential is also your ticket to enter any day of the United States Sailboat Show.

If for some reason you do not receive your badge/credential, go to the Will Call booth outside of the Main Gate to gain admission to the boat show.  If the Will Call booth line is long, go to any ticket booth and they will contact the Will Call staff for verification and get you into the show.

What to Wear

In case of inclement weather, participants are advised to wear layers and bring a rain jacket. Boat shoes, soft-soled shoes, or sneakers are best. The Graduate Hotel of Annapolis can be cool – a light sweater might come in handy.

Be comfortable, and wear good shoes for walking.


What to Expect

Take the Wheel offers four Jeanneau monohulls and four multihulls ranging from 37’ to 50’  for participants to demo. After signing up, you will receive an email with the eight boats’ make and model and a request for your selections. Participants will provide their top three choices of  boats to go out on. The organizers will do their best to get all participants on their top 2 choices, but may need to assign the third choice based on demand. During the morning seminar, boarding tickets will be provided, along with the boat demo schedule.

1:00 – 5:00       On-Board Demos  (Dock A1 for Catamarans, Dock E2 for Monohulls)

Where to Park

Daily parking is available for non-hotel guests at the The Graduate Hotel of Annapolis, 126 West Street. The cost is $8 for self-parking and $12 for valet parking. Enter the parking by West Street at the hotel entrance. 

Free Shuttle Bus

A free bus shuttle with a Take the Wheel sign on it will take attendees to the show grounds after lunch for the on the water trials.  There will be an optional shuttle to return to the hotel parking after 5pm.


Visit the Sailboat Show

Admission to the United States Sailboat Show is for all 5 days and is included with your Take the Wheel registration.  Your ticket to the Sailboat Show is good Thursday through Monday, October 14-18th.
