SafeLi Lithium Battery Safety System
Digital Yacht, a leading innovator in marine electronics, will show SafeLi, a pioneering gas and temperature monitoring system specifically designed to address the unique, hidden risks associated with modern lithium battery installations on boats at the Annapolis Sailboat show 2026
While the widespread adoption of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries has significantly reduced traditional “boat fire” and thermal runaway risks associated with older Lithium battery technology, they have introduced a critical secondary hazard – explosive gas generation.
Modern lithium chemistry is inherently more stable than its predecessors, but it is not without risk. If subjected to incorrect charging parameters — such as overcharging or voltage spikes LiFePO4 batteries can rapidly vent gas.
The predominant by-product of this venting is hydrogen, which is highly flammable even at incredibly low concentrations. In the confined space of a boat’s battery compartment, any standard electrical component (such as a bilge pump, motor, contactor, or fan) can generate a tiny spark with potentially explosive and catastrophic consequences.
SafeLi acts as an early-warning sentry, specifically calibrated to detect the earliest signs of battery distress before disaster strikes.
Dual-Sensor Monitoring: Features an ultra-sensitive gas sensor calibrated to detect hydrogen, alongside an integrated temperature sensor to monitor physical battery heat.
Instant NMEA 2000 Integration: Powered directly from the boat’s existing NMEA 2000 network, the compact device can be positioned right next to the battery bank and connected in under two minutes.
Multi-Channel Alerting: At the Helm: Automatically triggers a prominent pop-up warning on any compatible NMEA 2000 helm display.
On Your Device: Features a built-in wireless interface, allowing crew to monitor real-time gas and temperature levels directly via a smartphone or tablet.
Audible Alarms: Integrates seamlessly with Digital Yacht’s universal NMEA 2000 Klaxon to sound a loud, unmistakable physical alarm on board.
