All Hands on Deck: Bringing Kids to the Bay Bridge Boat Show

Date: March 12, 2026

There’s a moment, early in every outdoor excursion, when a parent wonders whether bringing the kids was a stroke of genius or a tactical error. Let us save you the suspense: it’s genius. The Bay Bridge Boat Show at Safe Harbor Narrows Point (April 17–19) is one of those rare events where kids don’t just tolerate tagging along; they have a legitimate blast.

Start with the boats themselves. There are hundreds of them, and kids are welcome aboard. This matters more than you think. It’s only a dream boat if the whole family loves it, and the surest way to find out is to let a nine-year-old loose on the bow. You’ll learn things about your family’s priorities that no spec sheet can tell you.

For kids 13 and older, BoatUS On-Water Training puts them behind the helm for hands-on boat-handling instruction. They’ll have to take driving lessons eventually; why not start with the fun kind first?

Younger kids will make a beeline for the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center’s FishMobile, a rolling aquarium with 13 live animal tanks featuring blue crabs, seahorses, American eels, painted turtles, and the oyster toadfish (a face only a marine biologist could love). Two interactive tanks let kids get their hands wet, and educational displays connect everyday life to the Bay’s ecosystems. Nearby, CCA Maryland will have a kids’ coloring and activity station for those who prefer their wildlife on paper.

Then there’s the Dock Ducks Scavenger Hunt. Rubber ducks are hidden throughout the show, and any kid who finds one can return it to the ticket booth for a prize. They also get to keep the duck, which, if you’ve spent time around children, you know is a sticking point.

Safety is built in, too. BoatUS provides complimentary life jackets for kids right at the entrance, so little ones are geared up before they step onto the docks.

When appetites inevitably strike (and they will, loudly), food trucks serve wings, tacos, pizza, and ice cream. The Lazy Mermaid Poolside Bar takes care of the grown-ups, and 10 restaurants sit within walking distance of the show if you need a proper sit-down.

The best part? Kids ages 15 and under get in free.

But here’s the thing worth remembering once the food is eaten, and the ducks are found: the memories that last aren’t made in parking lots or waiting rooms. They’re made on the water. A kid who climbs aboard a center console and watches the Bay stretch out toward the horizon is a kid who might just fall in love with something that lasts a lifetime. The Bay Bridge Boat Show is where that story starts.
