TEMO Outpod-1000

The TEMO OUTPOD(TM) is a revolutionary new electric propulsion platform designed specifically for sailboats, a cross between a Pod drive and an Outboard.

Sailors have traditionally chosen between an outboard on the transom and an inboard pod that requires cutting into the hull. The OutPOD removes that trade-off. It mounts a true underwater pod drive on a bolt-on transom fitting, giving the efficiency and quiet of a pod, with the ability to remove the Pod from the water to reduce drag like an outboard.

Two models cover the range. The OutPOD 1000 delivers 1,300 W and 66 lbs of static thrust. The OutPOD 3000 delivers 3,100 W and 148 lbs of thrust for larger boats and more demanding conditions. The motor weighs just 26 lbs on both models.

Power is simple. TEMO’s 2.3 kWh battery cassettes drop into an autoconnect rack with no cables to handle. They charge aboard from shore power, or lift out to charge at home. Owners with an existing 48 V lithium bank can run the OutPOD from it instead, and the system works with solar and hydrogeneration.

A remote throttle with forward and reverse and a digital display make handling easy. The motor is sealed to IP67 on the 1000 and IP68 on the 3000.

The OutPOD is part of TEMO’s SeaSIDE platform, a modular 48 V system in which motors, batteries and controls are shared across transom-mounted and hull-mounted pods. Builders and owners choose the mount that suits the boat, and everything else stays the same.

TEMO builds its motors in Europe and supports them in the U.S. from its own sales office and workshop in Portland, Maine
