Six Regional High Schools Announced for Invitational Keelboat Regatta

"Annapolis Junior Keelboat Regatta" to Debut at Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show

Annapolis, MD (April 6, 2015) – Participants in the inaugural spring high school invitational keelboat regatta were announced today as part of the festivities planned on and around City Dock, Annapolis during the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show, April 24-26, 2015. Hosting the Annapolis Junior Keelboat Regatta are J World Annapolis and Annapolis Boat Shows.

The official list of the six (6) local regional high schools competing in the First Annual Annapolis Junior Keelboat Regatta are: Severna Park High School, St. Mary's High School, Severn School, Broadneck High School, South River High School, and, Archbishop Spalding High School.

The teams will compete for the traveling cup, designed by Weems & Plath, with all races to be run on Saturday April 25, 2015. Races begin at 12noon with the boats departing from the docks of the Annapolis Boat Shows. Award ceremony will take place in Susan Campbell Park at 3:30pm.

Teams will use the J World Annapolis fleet of J/80's. The regatta will consist of one-design fleet racing using a low point scoring format and take place in the Annapolis harbor.

"Youth events like these are fun for the entire family and help grow the sport of sailing," said Paul Jacobs, general manager of the Annapolis Boat Shows.

"This is a great opportunity to expose junior sailors to keelboat racing," said Jeff Jordan, Director at J World Annapolis. As one of the top-rated sailing schools in the country, J World Annapolis provides performance-based instruction to new and experienced sailors from around the world.

On-Board Sailing Workshop

Experience the joy of sailing. Part of the American Sailing Association Small Boat Workshop for New Sailors Series, this hands-on workshop taught by instructors from Sailtime, is designed for the beginning sailor. The two-hour class will provide a comfortable 30-minute ASA dock-side overview of the sailing basics and what to expect during the on-board lesson before boarding a new ASA/Beneteau First 22 for 90-minutes of sailing instruction.

Sailing lessons depart from the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show three times a day, April 24-26, 2015. A two-hour sailing lesson and admission to the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show is available for $35 per person. Advance registration required. Limited availability. 

Sign up at our ticketing site and select a convenient two-hour block: 10am – 12pm, 1pm – 3pm or 3pm – 5pm, on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday of the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show.  Print out a two-part ticket: the first being your bar coded ticket into the show and the second being your boarding pass into the workshop.  Both parts are able to be scanned on your smartphone if you prefer not to print.

Participants must sign a release of liability, and registration is open to children 8 years and older with an accompanying parent or guardian and a signed waiver.

Space is very limited, so early registration is suggested.  Time changes and cancellations are possible until April 15, 2015.

Annapolis Powerboat Show Transforms Annapolis City Dock

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — (October 15, 2014) Celebrating the continued recovery of the boating industry, the Annapolis Boat Shows welcomes thousands of boaters to the 43rd United States Powerboat Show, running October 16 – 19, 2014.

Rebounding from the 2008 recession, the Annapolis Powerboat Show has demonstrated a steady increase in exhibit space and attendance each of the past five years. The 2014 pre-ticket sales are stronger than usual and exhibit space has expanded by seven percent.

The Luxury Pavilion

In recognition of the improving economy, a Luxury Pavilion has been developed for the discriminating boater and is presented by The Boat Village. This new section, sponsored by duPont REGISTRY, will feature magnificent yachts including Palm Beach, Hunton, Fairline, and Grand Banks as well as high end products from companies like Tesla Motors, Porsche of Annapolis, MarineMax Vacations, The Boat Village, Sotheby's International Realty, Gibbs Sport Amphibians, and SUN n FUN CRUISING. For the first time this year, brokers and manufacturers will be conducting sea trials from inside the boat show at easy to access demonstration docks.

Alistair Murray Recognized with First Annual United States Sailboat Show Sailing Industry Distinguished Service Award

Annapolis, Maryland (October 10, 2014) — Celebrating a successful opening day of the 45th United States Sailboat Show, the Annapolis Boat Shows hosted a launch party to welcome a star-studded cast from the sailing industry to Annapolis.

Keynote speaker Ken Read, considered one of the world’s most accomplished and celebrated sailors, spoke on the state of the industry and emphasized the growing enthusiasm for all levels of sailing that is being generated by increased attention on high performance racing in all age groups.

The night culminated in the presentation of the first annual Sailing Industry Distinguished Service Award, intended to honor a recipient who has distinguished him or herself through continued and unselfish service to the overall advancement of the sailing industry.

Alistair Murray was recognized for his many contributions to the sailing industry and his ability to blend the sport of sailing with business. Working for Ronstan since 1976, he has given back to the industry at every turn.

From Melbourne, Australia, Alistair has served on the board of Sail America and founded the International Sailing Summit. Over the years he has received many honors including the Centenary Medal, Australian Export Hero, 1999 and 2002 Marine Industry Achiever, and the Governor of Victoria Export Award. For many years he has been a competitor and event sponsor of the Tasar Championships.

Alistair moved to America twice through out his 40-year career with Ronstan, once in 1980 and again in 1992. He likes to say, “I love America. It’s the second best country in the world.”

The award came with a stunning custom engraved Anniversary Barometer, provided by Weems & Plath.

It is that special time of year in Annapolis where we welcome tens of thousands of boaters from around the world to this great historic seaport. We thank you for joining this amazing fraternity of boaters, gathering together to enjoy the oldest in-water powerboat show in the country. We have tried very hard to create a show with interesting activities, features, social events, and educational opportunities designed to delight you and make your trip to Annapolis most rewarding.

Every fall for 43 years, this show has entertained and amazed boaters from around the world. It has been produced at City Dock in Annapolis and has been the largest in-water powerboat show north of Fort Lauderdale. The economy took its collective foot off the pedal in 2008, but our show continued on and people continued to flock to Annapolis in October. Since then, the shows have grown back little by little as the boating economy rebounded and consumers have returned in increasing numbers. We know that many of you are repeat visitors, and that you come from the Mid-Atlantic States, but also from most other US states and from over twenty two countries around the world. You come here with a purpose; to compare the top models from the best boat and yacht manufacturers and to buy a boat. Your loyalty and support of the industry and this show is the reason we are able to produce this extravaganza year after year.

We hope you will enjoy the new features and events within the event that have been created to keep our show fresh and your interest peaked. This year, we are adding a very special area we are calling The Luxury Pavilion, presented by The Boat Village and sponsored by DuPont REGISTRY. Luxurious yachts, exotic automobiles, Florida Motor-Coaches, wine tasting and luxury lifestyle goods will be featured in abundance.

Annapolis Sailboat Show to Open Thursday

Annapolis, Maryland (October 6, 2014) – On Thursday October 9, 2014 sailors from around the globe gather on miles of docks in historic Annapolis for the 45th United States Sailboat Show.

Boat show enthusiasts at the five-day internationally acclaimed event board and inspect boats built by virtually every major sailboat manufacturer, including the largest collection of catamarans anywhere.

Among the hundreds of sailboats on display, the show features 12 boats from Jeanneau, 10 by Beneteaus, eight built by Fountains Pajot, and four from Hylas.

Maritime organizations launch Maryland Boating Career Discovery Day

Annapolis, Maryland  (October 1, 2014) — The Marine Trades Association of Maryland, Eastport Yacht Club Foundation and Annapolis Boat Shows are partnering to present Maryland Boating Career Discovery Day on Oct. 11 and Oct. 18.

This is an opportunity for high school students to become familiar with the marine trades industry at the upcoming US Sailboat Show, Oct. 9 to 13, and US Powerboat Show, Oct. 16 to 19, in Annapolis.



Organizers will be using the nation’s oldest in-water boat shows as a platform to showcase careers available in Maryland’s $2 billion recreational boating industry. Maryland Boating Career Discovery Day is an educational experience available to 40 students between the ages of 13 and 18 and one adult guest per student, according to a MTAM news release.

Participants will enjoy complimentary access, a $36 value, to either the US Sailboat Show or US Powerboat Show, continental breakfast and a brief presentation about career opportunities with the marine trades, followed by a maritime treasure hunt and escorted VIP access to the show. Following the program, the students and guests will be free to explore the show through the end of the day.
