Annapolis Boat Shows Expected to Attract 100,000 Visitors & Provide $50 Million Boost to Local Economy Over Two Long Weekends in October

World's Oldest and Largest In-Water Powerboat and Sailboat Shows Begin October 3, 2013

Annapolis, Maryland (August 15, 2013) —- Beginning October 3, 2013 the Annapolis Boat Shows are expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors to its historic and charming seaport and provide a $50 million dollar boost to the local economy.

Produced annually on consecutive weekends by U.S. Yacht Shows, Inc., these great shows host more than 250 sailboats, over 300 powerboats and hundreds of land exhibitors and mark two of the most significant events in the boating industry's year.

This year, the oldest in-water powerboat show will open the first weekend in October followed immediately by the oldest and largest sailboat show to take place over Columbus Day weekend.

Beginning with a VIP Preview Day on October 3, 2013, the 42nd Annual United States Powerboat Show will herald the arrival of a new Annapolis tradition: the 1st Annual Annapolis Brokerage Show. The two shows will be held concurrently in convenient venues with buses, e-cruisers and water taxis ferrying attendees between the two events. One price of admission will provide entry into both the US Powerboat Show and the Annapolis Brokerage Show.

The first of its kind, the Annapolis Brokerage Show will promote the sale of previously owned boats of all kinds. The large selection of boats presented by area brokers will be on display in St. Mary's Cove just inside the bridge on Spa Creek and be available to the public for immediate sale.

The US Powerboat Show will maintain its venerable tradition of show casing hundreds of new boats from major manufacturers around the world at the Annapolis City Dock in the beautiful Annapolis Harbor. 2014 designs and models will debut in the boating market at this year's show that runs
October 3 – 6, 2013.

The US Powerboat Show features everything from luxurious motor yachts and trawlers to high-performance boats and offshore fishing machines. There are family cruisers, center consoles and inflatables. Attendees will also find a wide selection of marine equipment, high-tech electronics, accessories, gear and related services such as boating lessons, rentals, insurance firms and lending institutions. Take the Wheel Workshops are interactive workshops for novice boaters coupled with on-boat demonstrations and boat rides.

On October 10th the 44th Annual United States Sailboat Show will open with more new sailboats assembled in one spot than anywhere in the country. More new sailboat models are introduced at this event than any other show and at least 40 new models will premier this year.

In addition, more than four-dozen multi-hulls sailboats representing the largest collection in the world will be docked in Annapolis ranging in size from 26-67 feet.  From small day sailors to extravagant world cruisers, every imaginable multi-hull option exhibits at this show.

The US Sailboat Show will feature  a large number of sailboats over 65 feet, a pavilion designated for domestic and international racing boats ranging in size from 18-35 feet, and many small compact easy to trailer sailboats, sailing dinghies and inflatables.

An entire section located in the heart of the Sailboat Show is dedicated to chartering, travel and vacations in exotic island locations. Transformed into a show within a show, "Vacation Basin" is designed to look and feel like paradise. Boat show enthusiasts will browse among dozens of charter companies, speak with tourism boards and explore options for adventure travel and exotic destination resorts.

There will be daily seminars on all things sailing sponsored by Cruising WorldMagazine, by Chesapeake Bay Magazine and Annapolis School of Seamanship. Take the Wheel Workshops are offered for novice sailors and those looking to purchase a boat.  Sailing equipment, rigging and accessories plus maintenance products and services will be featured.

"Most major boat manufacturers not only participate, they bring their entire lines," said Paul Jacobs, general manager of the Annapolis Boat Shows.

"In fact, many companies choose these shows as the venue in which to premier their newest models.  So far, we are aware of over three dozen sailboats that will be shown for the first time here in Annapolis.  The fall sailboat show is not only the largest in the country; it includes the biggest multi-hull section in the nation.  The powerboat show, too, offers hundreds of boats, from 8 to 80 feet in length, including an extensive Trawler  section and an entire dock devoted to center-console fishing boats of all descriptions; the most ever here in Annapolis this fall."

In 2013 Annapolis Boat Shows launched a mobile app for smart phone users to purchase tickets and explore show offerings.  To download the app or for more information, including premiering boats, show history, accommodations, parking, tickets call 410-268-8828.
